Rikon 10-305 is it reliable
There are just as many bench-top bandsaws on the market as full-sized models, so choosing what is right for you depends on what you need from a saw.
Let’s explore the Rikon 10-305 review (10” Bandsaw) and examine how it differs from other miter saws in the market.
We’ll have a look at its product description, special features, technical specifications, pros and cons, conclusion, and FAQs.
Assembly of Rikon 10-305
Rikon has included a few accessories with the 10-305. You will receive the aforementioned micro adjustable guide post along with a handy fence measuring 13 1/2” x 1” x 2”.
It also comes with a general purpose blade sporting six teeth per inch in a regular pattern with a width of 5/16”.
Aside from the instruction manual, that is all you will get with this particular model although we are paying for quality and performance, and accessories.
This model has a metal rip fence that easily guides your stock so that you obtain more accuracy during your cut.
Making straight lines with a bandsaw is generally very difficult, but with the inclusion of this metal fence, we are confident that you can make extremely straight and professional lines with his benchtop band saw.
Ease of Use of Rikon 10-305
Setting up this bandsaw doesn’t require a degree, so even the most inexperienced artisans should have it up and running in no time.
The initial adjustments are easy as well and getting it tuned in after a blade change will become second nature after a few attempts.
We also like the safety paddle switch which automatically locks the blade down.
This compact machine is easy to use for beginners, and it is a lightweight nature makes is fairly easy to move around if you decided to redecorate your shop.
Design of Rikon 10-305
The Rikon 10-305 is not a full-sized saw, so it weighs 76 pounds. While the base isn’t cast iron, steel plate is a fine substitute and helps keep the weight down.
The plate is made of cast iron, however, and measures 13 3/4” x 12 1/2”.
The access doors on this machine are also made from steel while the rotors are cast aluminum. The guide post uses a rack and pinion system which allows for micro adjustments on the fly.
In a nutshell, it’s a solid machine with high-quality parts and a clean, simple design. You certainly won’t have to deal with plastic parts on this bandsaw.
One key piece of information we uncover in our Rikon 10-305 review is the fact that the machine is less noisy. Yes, you will be able to hear it run, but we found it is considerably quieter than similar models of this size.
That’s a bonus, and we think the motor will be proven more than adequate for most users while working with this bandsaw.
Power & Speed of Rikon 10-305
There is a 1/3 HP motor on this saw which is powerful enough to get through most materials without bogging down.
It is a little underwhelming when it comes to resawing, but does a fine job with light-duty work and curvy cuts.
Vibration is minimal on this machine once you have it set it properly
Power is not the strongest feature of Rikon 10-305. It carries a smaller 1/3 HP motor that is still adequate for cutting through low-density materials like wood, and even high-density material like metal sheet at the lowest speed.
It will not stall and produce a clean and professional finish cut especially when doing pen blanks and bowls. Hence, it’s clever if you don’t use it on thick and high-density metal.
Cut Options of Rikon 10-305
Its main claim to fame would be the cast iron table which can tilt 45° to the right or 15° to the left and has a miter gauge T-slot measuring 5/8” x 3/8”.
It also has edge facing thrust bearings and a micro adjustable guide post to assist while making different-sized cuts.
This machine can handle 1/2” bandsaw blades between 1/8” and 1/2” wide. It has a 2-1/2” dust port and a top speed of 2,780 FPM.
The Rikon 10-305 can cut a maximum width of 9-5/8” and handle heights up to 4-5/8” which is around the average for this range.
Recognized as a machine that can capable of doing pen blanks, the Rikon 10-305 can do so much more.
The depth of cut is good enough to let you get through medium-sized or thicker stock, and curves are no problem for this bandsaw.
Working Area of Rikon 10-305
For a small bandsaw, the Rikon 10-305 has a fairly generous table at 13-3/4 x 12-1/2 inches. At this size, it can accommodate almost any type of material.
You will still have ample space to work with great maneuverability. Often times, the table size is a limiting factor in band saws, but not with this one.
Additionally, the table is thick and perfectly flat so that the material cab be fixed on it precisely. It also offers low resistance and easy-gliding stock.
This model provides even greater maneuverability at no extra cost to you. Lastly, the table can tilt to the right providing you more versatility when cutting stock.
The cast iron table can only tilt 45-degrees to the right. Thus, you should know how to take this single tilting position into account when working with various material.
Dust Collection of Rikon 10-305
A standard 2-½ inch dust port is included so as to help keep your cut clean from wood powder, dust, or debris.
The size of this dust port matches the cutting capacity of this Rikon bandsaw perfectly. With a smaller dust port, this also means that this unit works more silently than a model with a 4” dust port.
A 2-½ inch dust port lets you pull dust and debris from the work area by connecting a compatible hose.
Great designed dust port will assure that you shouldn’t have a problem with saw dust.
The dust port works a lot better than most of the models we’ve dealt with in this range, so if minimal sawdust and debris are important to you, go on with this saw.
Weight and Portability of Rikon 10-305
The whole frame of this Rikon 10-305 bandsaw is made from steel that guarantees durability. It is solidly built and will last for a long time.
Furthermore, the 21-inch base is equally made from steel and provide a large surface area for maximum stability.
It will sit flush to a workbench or can easily be retrofitted to a stand. The heavyweight of 68 lbs and the solid steel construction do a good job of minimizing vibrations.
In turn, you get more stability which directly translates to more accuracy when using this small bandsaw.
Safety of Rikon 10-305
While bandsaws aren’t hard tools to use, they can make newcomers a little nervous.
That’s understandable considering it has a sharp, spinning blade but there’s no need to be fearful of the Rikon 10-305 as it’s safe and easy to use.
The safety paddle switch is situated right at the front of the unit and when pressed, it will automatically lock the blade.
This is an excellent security feature as well as a function that will prevent you from ruining your work.
Warranty of Rikon 10-305
When making power tool purchases, consider several factors. Is there a warranty? Will you be using it often? What projects will you be using it for?
With Rikon, your purchase is backed up by their five-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship giving your purchase that needed peace of mind.
